I think you'll find that to be the case in alot of automotive problems, not just transmissions. Sad fact is, the vast majority of the motoring public don't know don't want to know and don't care about taking care of the equipment. It's not difficult at all to do the small amount of basic maintenance that will prevent the large amount of problems. But they don't for some reason.
