Truck Won't Start
Truck Won't Start
Well.the weather here in North Carolina took a turn for the worst and my truck won't start! I believe the problem is an ignition switch on the transmission. I have a 47rh with an ignition/park switch on the driver side mounted towards the back of the trans. It's a 3 - pin switch and I have had problems before with the wiring plug that plugs onto the switch mounted in the trans. Whenever it gets cold/or wet like today I usually crawl under the truck and wiggle the plug and it will start. Today it will not start!
I believe the plug may be shot because it was reused during my conversion project and it may have been a problem for precious owner because it is spliced into wiring harness. It appears a wire may be loose or not making connection within the rubber plug itself. My question is this plug/connector something that can be purchased at an auto parts store or do i need to go to dealer. I'm here by myself so i don't have anyone to turn key switch while I hold pressure on plug to see if it will start. Thanks for any suggestions. Now all i can do is go have another
and wait until my boys get home from school to help me.

A test you can do with out help , use a jumper wire to make connection with plug disconnected .
As for the "plug" , what they are referred to , any plug for any use , is a pigtail , when I need one I find it easy to go to Napa parts store , you may need to go through there catalog to mach up , use solder to make connection , crimping can fail over time , because of being outside & all the weather it sees .

Thanks John for the reply. If it ever stops raininig here i'm going to put a new pigtail on there and it will get soldered with heat shrink around connections. I see you have an Amsoil bypass set up. Do you have any pictures of how you mounted it. I want to do the same thing but i can't figure out where to mount it.
OK, as soon as it stops raining (yea! it's still raining
here since i posted this) i will crawl under there and see/understand what you are describing. I am putting a lower mileage 12v into my crew and it doesn't leak as much oil as my current engine. I will also go through and replace gaskets as needed and just do a basic freshen up job and then go completely to Amsoil in the engine. I have it in my 47rh now and I want all lube oils to be Amsoil. That's why the questions about the bypass. I don't want to ever change oil again. Just use bypass and oil sampling. I wish Amsoil would be the choice of all vehicle owners in this country, it is an awsome product but vehicle owners don't understand the saving they get by using it. All they see is the dollar amount for a quart and they are like "i can get that at Walmart for half the price and still does the same job"....silly ignorant people! Any way i see where your 10-20 is and know why you use it. I will be getting back to you with more ???. I am a dealer here in North Carolina and would really like to see more 1 st. gens using this oil.
