Getrag to release a 7 speed manual
For all you guys who love manual transmissions, and cost is no object, it appears that Getrag is coming out with a replacement for your first gen 5 speed Getrag's that you so love.
It's called a 6/7MTI550 rated at 405 ft lbs of torque. Good for a 4bt, I would guess. Even better in a Ramcharger
Well, not really, but I think it's probable that one of you guys out there, along with advance adapters, with "never done before" in mind, would consider this swap. Seems as though Ferd is coming back to its origins and making a debut of the new "Bronco". IMO, it's reallly a Bronco II because it's on a mid sized frame and chassis, but who the heck am I ?
Pretty cool, none the less... and would make you "shifty" guys really happy, and us "Slushy" guys jealous.

They then usually have one over drive gear with gearing of about .72-.76: to 1
I can not see that making much difference in a rig if it was gas or diesel.
The big thing for me would be the cost of it and the power rating.

The main reason for adding more gear steps is to get a few more fractional MPG's out of the vehicle. This allows the engine to run in a narrower power band for more efficiency.

The Tremec 5 speed I have is only a single overdrive with 4th gear being 1:1.
What are the 5th and 6 th gear ratios in your Challenger?

Well if it comes with a double overdrive, it will be even more "friendly" a gearing set up for a diesel then.
I just know the 5 and 6 speed options in the trucks I own and deal with have just one overdrive gear.
It is a common mis conception that the NV-5600 6 speed lowers you final drive ratio a lot over the NV-4500 5 speed. They are actually quite close in final drive ratio with the gear one lower than over drive being a 1:1 gear.

The real gain with more speeds is filling in the big gaps below 1:1. Take one gear each for granny, direct, and OD.... you still have 4 gears to play with. Set your axle ratio for the top speed you want in OD.
Not sure I'd trust an ecoboost trans behind a 6BT the way I use my truck. Would like to get my hands on a Spicer 7spd (ES066-7B), normally used in 3-5ton trucks.
IMO, there's some packaging/strength implications for channelling diesel torque through a dual OD arrangement.

I don't think any double over trans can handle the torque pulse of a inline six diesel. Maybe some of those triple counter shaft Mack trans, but not a single counter shaft unit. I would love to have an under drive splitter in my '90 for towing and drop the rear gear down to a 3.55 vs 4.10. That would keep that BT right where i want it with a load on. I don't need to run 100 mph. I just don't like to be passed on a grade.
