Getrag lost oil

Hey, I got a question for you guys. My getrag over the weekend lost most of the oil out of it. From the back of the trans , about where the Transfer case is (or in that area) everything underneath the truck is covered in oil.

Can anyone send me a PDF file of the getrag, IPB?

Also, any ideas what went on this? Are there any gaskets or seals in the trans or transfer case that would cause this to happen? Also, after reading another thread, is there a vent for the transmission case?

TIA

There is a seal in the back of the tranny, that leak could be an indicator of a bad bearing in the tranny allowing the shaft to slop around in the seal, or it could just be a bad seal.

There is also a vent in the top of the shift cover, right in front of the shifter tower. It is usually a plastic cap. If it is clogged, or not venting in some other way, it can puke oil out the weakest seal.

I checked the cover and there is a small 'cap' behind the shift tower, but it is solid, and appears made that way. Maybe put a few small holes in it, to use as a vent ?

I have never seen any of these vented, so I didnt know if maybe that is causing the oil to blow out a seal. I would hate to tear all this out just to find out it was something stupid like this. Drill holes or not, suggestions?

I can't see there being an air tight seal around the shifter ball, I think it would vent excess pressure from there as well.

it could also be the gasket between the main case and the tailhousing as it has oil running around the cluster shaft bearing...that would certainly drain your main case and i havent seen vents on top of the shifter plate on any of them i have run across....i do know when i filled mine up with the top off before i sealed it that 5 qts didnt get the oil level to the input shaft bearing like most think for it to constantly ride in oil..as a matter of fact it took almost 6.2 qts to get it to the bottom of the main bearing and to just over the top bolt in the side inspection plate
