I can't get the second snap ring back on the counter shaft. I already broke 2of the bearings that the snap ring is supposed to hold on because I have been beating it on there so hard to try and get the snap ring into the slot on the shaft. Are there different thickness snap rings? I replaced both snap rings and that is the only thing I can think of.

 

can you try the snap ring in the groove before you load the shaft up with parts to see if it fits right?

 

It sounds to me like you don't have the bearings pressed on the shaft all the way. How many shims are you using to set your preload?

 

the snap ring fts fine in the groove without the bearing. I pressed the bearings on there as hard as I could, hard enough to crack the inner race on one of the bearings, but the ring still won't quite go on. I haven't set up th preload yet because I need to get the snapring on first.

 

Speaking of snap rings, I'm looking for a place to get a new 2nd gear snap ring. Anybody suggest a dealer?

 

I got some parts from drivetrain.com. Give them a call, they have lots of parts for the getrag.

 

Oh, and thanks for the replies everybody. I got another countershaft bearing yesterday, pressed it on, and the snap ring fit perfect. Still don't know why it didn't go on earlier. Now I'm just waiting for the input shaft to come.
