Gear Vendor Over/Under Drives

Has anyone installed and used the Gear Vendors over drive? I'm thinking of either going with a NV5600 or maybe put the over under drive in my truck.
Does anyone currently have one and use it for hauling?
Any info would be great.
Thanks
Doug

Yes, I have both a 5600 and a gear vendors in my 89. They work fine . I haul a 29 ft. 5er and an 18 ft. boat behind. I have ran gear vendors since 1998 and installed the 5600 in 2003. John

4500

on the flip side, i chose the 5 speed, ive seen better durability across the rebuilding community, some unfortunate catastrophic failures with the 5600, ive also seen a lot of them get really good service time, for me the xtra weight wasnt in my interest, with a 4.10 ratio, and the o.d. i get 7 forward gears including the granny low, towing weight in hilly conditions, youll use all of them, i picked up 2-3 mpg's, if im staying moderate on the pedal, running 65 mph, i can average a 20 mpg, no wind/moderate hills, it will pay for it self.

I love my GV. Makes the 4.10 stick truck a towing monster. Like Sooty said, 20mpg highway unloaded, easy. I'll wager most if not all problems anyone ever had with them was due to lack of maintenance (smallish oil capacity) or improper driving technique - leaving them engaged in moderate to heavy deceleration, burning the clutch.

The GV is basically just a very robust electrically swiched 2-speed automatic transmission. They call it an auxiliary transmission. Truckers call it a gear splitter.

I've read the US gear units don't have issues with deceleration while engaged. They use a different method of engaging so it's not an issue.

Like the members above I have a 4:10 truck and I kept the 5speed rag, and it does just fine. I would keep the 5speed due to ease of install, and it was the best mod to my truck I have done since I bought it. I do also average about 22mpg with my truck and it is nice having the extra capability of more gears. Good luck and join the Gear Vendor club!
