I think I may use this pulley as it'll keep the alt rpms within its spec at 3500 engine rpms:

Will it work? 7/8" bore, should?

Oh I think i'd definitely use the 2.7" pulley.

On your recommendation, I just clicked to buy three of these :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250451477367

He only had three at the moment and I was afraid they would get gone.

I talked to the guy = WAYNE, and he said they usually try to keep at least three and can get as many as anyone wants.

If you click on "seller's store", it shows his toll-free number, along with about a gazillion parts.

I hope I didn't mess up.

This guy seems to have a never ending supply of 160-amp -555s :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=170354667168

When one sells, he relists another, with about a three day turnover.

I got one of his a couple weeks ago; it may be deader than a doornail, but it sure looks good.

It looks like brand-new.

Thanks, BK! Well, I got a 3.42 pulley and I'll see about that alternator later. I was watching one of those last week or maybe it was the week before, forgot. Then I forgot to bid on it before the auction was over, probably one of the ones you got. All I need now is to wait for parts to show up and start fabbing the bracket. Made cables today...

This place is on the expensive side but they have some sizes and part numbers.

If you have a local Starter/ Alternator Rebuilder locally I would check there first, they will usually have boxes of pulleys they take off the cores.

Also have you checked Truck Parts and 24 hour Truck Stops will sometimes carry these alternators.

They wanted $195 for a reman at the truck place I normally frequent here. I think I'll try the eBag model for $65 + s&h.

Thanks also to Mr Jim Lane for getting us all in over our heads in the first place.

I paid $200.00 for a brand spanking new one with a 1-year warranty and I had it in my hands as soon as I paid him.

I usually do not like to wait for things that I buy and I will pay more for the convience.

Where did you get the pulley from, the one I linked to earlier?

The place I got mine from is down in commerce city, and I believe I paid ~200 for both alternator and pulley and they were both new.

No, the one BK linked. Looked like the same as the one you showed, a bit lower price. BK is the low price leader, for sure!

So now that I'm really about ready to do this, I just thought of another "gotcha." Is that longer belt listed on Jim's original write-up going to be long enough for a 3.4" pulley? That's the last thing on my parts list I haven't purchased yet.

Looking back the only one I saw BK linked to was a 2.7" OD. Where is the 3.42" OD?

No that belt from Jim's thread will be too short for IC trucks(bigger crank pulley), right now i'm using a NAPA 080839, however I plan to change to a 3.42" pulley and I think Goodyear belt #4080845 may be needed and work out perfect.

Not one that fits better and works better than the Leece Neville, which is why the original poster stated that he gave up on the GM alternator and moved on to something better!

Actually, I have to search for it in that one seller's store:

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Triodiod...__W0QQ_armrsZ1

It was only $15.75 + $13 s&h. And thanks for that belt number, Aaron! I knew there had to be at least one more sticky wicket to get through before this finally came together.

Anything will fit with enough modification and fabrication. BK was just looking for a better alternator solution, and the Leece Neville is the clear winner for that purpose, as Aaron stated.
