Fused link

I finally dug into the harness and found the burnt link. I patched around it and used a 30AMP fuse. That fuse rating is just a guess.. Working great now!

Now it's blowing the fuses as fast as I put them in. I gotta find the short before I go postal on the electrical system!

Was it the fusible link for the AC/power windows?

No, it was for the turn signals, speedo (I think all of the dash electronics) cruise, and radio.

Orange link is 40 amp. Grey is 60 amp. Might just be blowing because it's too small.

Normally we replace FL's with Maxi fuses, except for the green one which requires a 175 amp monster fuse.

Thank you so much! I think it might have been the orange one. But there is definately a shorts because if I just across it with the key on it pops one of the circuit breakers on the fenderwell.

You can repeat that trick safely till you dog the short. As long as the errant circuit is fused, you can short the link for testing. Just don't make it permanent because if there's a short before a fuse, it'll burn down yer truck.

If you have a row of breakers and can't figure out which one is tripping, just wire a 12v bulb across each one. The one that lights is the bad one.

Then follow the wire to the problem, or disconnect it and find out what isn't working.

I have a manual for a 1991 with the wiring diagrams, If you think it could help I will be going up to the sedillo hill area tomorrow morning your welcome to borrow it. If is a constant short and not a intermittent you could disconnect the bulk head connector to see if the problem is in the cab or the engine compartment.

I know it sounds crazy, but check real close where the harness lays on top of the brake booster. Mine wore through the flat sheet metal of the firewall. Tied it to the bail on the master cylinder, have yet to fix the wire.

Jumper all fuses involved with solid wire and follow the burned wire to the short.

JUST KIDDING

I see. I was just curious because I am having a similar fuse problem with the AC/power window circuit. I keep changing fuses until I get a chance to track down the real problem.

Good luck solving your electrical issue.

Turned out to be the Fuel shutoff solenoid wire shorting on the back side of the dipstick tube... needle in a hastack. Working now. Thanks for all the advice (as usual!).
