Fuel Tank Sizes???

What were the standard and optional (if any) fuel tanks for our trucks?

I thought they were 30 gallon tanks.

Anyways, my fuel gauge doesnt work, and my "LOW FUEL" light would come on and I'd fill her up and it would only take 17-23 gallons... I figure the LOW FUEL light should come on with a few gallons of reserve...anyone know how many gallons it comes on at? Since I've been thinking I had a 30 gal tank, I'm guessing I've got a few extra gallons before I need to worry about getting diesel after the light comes on.

30 gal tank and it's supposed to come on with 5 gal left. Mine is actually very accurate, if I fill up when it comes on and stays solid I'll put just over 25gal in, filling the neck to the top.

thats odd. i have a 25 gal tank. i bought my truck last may 2k3 from the original owner who always had it maintained at the dodge dealer right up the road from me where he bought it. i had to take the tank off last year while changing a hose and was surprised that it was only a 25 gal tank. i have heard more than once on this site that they have 30 gal tanks. my factory dodge book even says i have a 25 gal tank. how bizarre. i have a 93' dodge d250 clubcab at. anyone help me out as to why this might be?

I can't tell you why you have a 25 gal tank, but i can tell you it isn't because they made a change in '93. Mine has a 30 gal tank also.

A guy at work has a '92 D350 Club Cab Auto DRW, and says he's got a 26 gal tank.... I ran mine for about 60 miles after the LOW FUEL light came on this past weekend while going to San Antonio for a Turbo Mustang Shootout. I filled it up and it took 27.9 gallons...so yeah I've got a 30 gal.

Mine's a 30 gallon as well. When the "Low Fuel" light came on yesterday at an indicated 1/8 tank, I filled it up and put in about 21 gallons.

Now this is a perplexing isn't it? Why would a '91 have a 30 gal, but a '93 have a 25-26 gal?

And why would a dually have a smaller tank?

Did Dodge offer dual tanks on 1st gen?

Mine is a 92 2WD 350. It is 30 gallons, when my light comes on and stays on it will take 22 gallons. I have run it past the low fuel light and have put in 26.5 gallons before, Im afraid to go any farther Too much work if you run out

Once when I fueled up in town the dodge took 29 gallons. I was starting to get nervous about how low the fuel guage was.

the 'books' will say a smaller tank, you need to look at the cummins suppliment book. I have the window sticker to my truck, I'll look, but I think it has both tanks listed, the 30gal obv. superceeding the std 25 gal tank for a gaser.

Denis, yes, dual tanks could be had, but not with a cummins from what I've seen. They got one 30gal. 600mi is long enuf most guys need to get out and stretch at least

you have a 30gal tank, you would have been at the side of the road empty otherwise. The light comes on with 5gal remaining, you can read about it in the cummins suppliment book.

Yeah, I can see you are right, Furious, about 600 miles being long enough. After that long, I'd probably be begging to fuel up the truck!

I also have a 30 gallon tank. I had a interesting problem one day last summer. I went into a station to fill up and was unable to get more than 5 gallons into the tank. Went to another station and had same problem. I took it to a dealer and told him my tale of woe. They droped the tank and said that they could not find a problem The manager said it was probably the plastic ping pong ball in the filler neck that got stuck. He said if it did it again hit it with a hammer. Any way I haven't had any more problems since and it had been hard to fill for several years.
