Fuel Shut Off Solenoid Removal?
Fuel Shut Off Solenoid Removal?
Looking for advice please on removing the fuel shut off solenoid. Looks really tight to get any tool in there. What size wrench is needed, and what is the easiest way to get in there? Any help appreciated...
Thanks!

Believe it or not, a chisel and hammer. that is how I did mine as well as lots of guys here...Mark
I managed to get a crescent wrench on mine, getting a fraction of turn and flipping the wrench over 100 times
I agree too on a chisel and hammer. If you've got a spare you should take it to the grinder and give it good sharp 90* corners to bite in good. I've taken out many of the most stuck bolts with this method. All metal chisels or cold chisels work best - wood or plastic handles absorb much of the impact that make it's work so well in the first place.

I cut that bracket off that prevents access. There are sockets that fit it, but I think I just used a chisel and it came right out. In all honesty, I can't remember how I did it, but without the bracket it wasn't impossible.

Youll need to cut the bracket off. Its 15/16 in wrench but to fit its gotta look something like this:

I used a dremel to grind the open end down until it would fit. Took quite some time, if you have a bench grinder, it would be faster
Notice how the bracket is gone (shiny metal behind FSS) used my dremel on that too

I bought a deep offset 15/16" (I think) box end wrench from Sears. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-profe...5&blockType=G5 I cut it shorter and ground on the box end until it slipped right in there. The right tool for the proper job.

The bracket on the pump that is in the way is very soft. I just put a crescent wrench on it and bend it down enough to get the FSS, then I bend it back. Makes it simple, and no special tools required.
