Fuel Screw.

Fuel Screw.

i have a 1991 5.9 cummins. non intercooled. and there is this red cap over the fuel screw. how do i get this off. and can i turn up the fuel screw with out taking off the pump. and anyother pointers i may need. i just want to turn it in as far as the stop because i dont have a pyro guage yet..

It doesn't take much sometimes to get very hot. Just get a gage and be safe. I know when I installed my gage the temp was out of control after I made modest fuel adjustment.

get a good set of pine nose pliers and pull it off it will be tough but not inpossible, you can crank it in and it should be okay as long as your not towing or holding it down to the floor for 5 mins

The little cap is a pain to get off but some pliers will get it off if you work at it.

Listen to KRB! The fuel screw is a big part of the fun with these trucks, BUT can get out of hand in a hurry. Go to the sticky and read up on choking off a runaway as well as how to adjust the fun screw. Then have some fun.

ive already read the stickies and i read this article on howto in a diesel power issue. i have a little idea of how its done. i just dont know how to get the cap off. but it sounds like i just pull it off. but yah ill be getting a pyro guage here soon. and i will be adding an i/c here this summer. so i hope that will help.

oh and i have a rig saver on my truck so im not worried about runaways. ill just pull the emergency stop lever and it will stall out the motor.
