fuel pump ?'s

Does anyone know if the 4bt uses the same fuel pump/transfer pump as the 6bt?

Also, I just installed a gauge at the banjo bolt that comes out of the filter head and the pump will pull 4-5psi at idle but under acceleration it will in most cases go down to 3psi and hard acceleration 1-2psi. This is too low, I changed the fuel filter and it didn't improve. I was thinking I'll check the lines to the tank yet I think the are ok and it should pull more.

How much does a healthy fuel pull pull in psi?
I thought about a piston pump but I don't want to blow a seal on the VE and spend even more money on this truck, I want it reliable and working properly.

That sounds about right to me for a stock lift pump. How turned up is your pump?

I don't think it is turned up, the collar is still on the screw as far as I can tell and I couldn't possibly turn it up anymore the engine hits 1100f on every decent hill.
I thought I read here the VE needs 4psi at least at all times to keep it from overheating, is this right? This has been this way for years for all I know, but I don't want to further the damage if there is any at all.

I have carter electric pumps on My 6bt and works well but I wanted to keep this one mechanical to see if there are advantages. I thought about a piston lift pump but then again I don't want to put too much pressure and blow a seal and then fill the oil pan with diesel.

So do I keep it this way or I need to switch to something that will pull more fuel?

Found this one, will it be a better fit? I'm concerned with the fuel pressure it will deliver, would a regulator be needed or is there other part #'s that don't need one?

I already read the sticky and they are nice (thank You) but seem to Me they are directed to a performance audience $$$ more than an upgrade for better fueling.

You can put a dead head pressure regulator on after the fuel filter with the piston pump to keep the pressure around 14-15 psi.

Non return style. (the extra fuel doesn't go back to the tank, it "dead heads" and keeps the pressure to where you set it). Clear as mud?

Its just a preussre regulater with no return lines. it just stops the flow and only lets out the psi it is set for

I thought so but didn't want to assume it was just that. I was under the impression the transfer pump shouldn't be set that way, that it would have negative effect on the pump having all that pressure going nowhere. If not then that will lower the cost of the project since this bypass regulators are a little too high for Me.

From what I was told, the 3936320 pump has a lower pressure so you don't need a regulator.

If you use the low pressure piston pump it will max at 15 psi. If you aren't pushing more than 15 psi then you shouldnt have to worry about pushing out the seal in the VE. You really notice the fact that the pump is supplying more fuel higher up in the rev range. Nice simple upgrade in my opinion.

I searched on the sticky and didn't find this pump, I still need the spacer and other parts mentioned on the sticky but I like the idea that I shouldn't need a regulator for it. Anyone have this setup?

I read this thread and gather the low pressure lift pump comes from cummins and not OFI, theirs is one that will only pull 8psi with unknown volume so it has the advantage of the piston pump but still not higher psi than the stock diaphragm pump.

I really want to get a better lift pump but I'm unsure as to where to get the right one for a 4bt (should be the same as a 6bt right) and I don't think I want to pay cummins for a pump made by Delphi.

If I find the right one I would get one for My 6bt as well and install it in parallel with the electric ones.

I called OFI, the part #'s from the sticky do no cross to anything on their end. He does have the hf700 or hf702 pumps but does not know what the fuel pressure is on those and without a part # I just can't pick one.

There are kits but they sell complete, I only need the pump and spacer.

Have anyone else come across this and want to share?
