fuel flow troubles

I just installed a new lift pump yesterday, according to my cummins manual. I used the manual pump to prime it up, but I'm getting no fuel up from the tank. Have I overlooked something here? I took a look at the fuel filter, and it's only half full of fuel as well. The original problem was that the diaphragm in the lift pump went. I'll probably be bleeding air out forever.

I thought of turning it over to get the flow going, but I'm trying to minimize air in the system. I don't know whether disconnecting the shutdown solenoid and then turning it over will get me some fuel flowing without sucking further air in the system.

If anyone has some advice, I'd be grateful.

Take the filter off and Fill it with fuel..Then Crack Open a fuel line or two and crank it over for a few seconds untill AIR is purged out..if you have someone to help, its easier..you should be up and goin in a couple minutes..once the truck is running you can then crack each line "one at a time" to make sure ALL the air is out.. ONLY crack the line's open enough untill you can see bubbles of air escaping..it's no fun getting sprayed with fuel..

it may also be that your Lift pump just happened to land right on the Camshaft so it will not pump. I would try bumping your motor over a little and see if the lift pump works better.

Else, fill the filter with fuel and let it start. I have done it that way forever and have never had problems with air in the system.

Right you were nuttymopar!

One bump and I was able to bleed out the air through the fitting on the top of the fuel filter. She runs great, no smoke.

Thanks to the both of you for the help.
