Fuel cutoff solenoid issue

Today I shut my truck off at a drive up window and it wouldn't start. I had to use the starter to get out of the way, but after a while she lit again. Is it possible that the solenoid it too weak for the increased distance I created by shaving down the rubber? Or perhaps the oil bleed in the piston itself is too small? I know it's getting good battery power.....

The following is just my opinion.

I wouldn't have stretched that spring.

With the rubber you ground off, there's just that much less of the metal sleeve in the pull of the magnetic field. The stretched spring places just that much more closing force on the plunger.

The two are counter to each other.

Seems I recall you may have an unaltered spare. See if that will fix it.

When I was working out the details of my engine swap, it failed to start one day. I had 12v at the solenoid, crank but no start. It wasn't until I checked voltage while a buddy cranked it that I found a loose ground cable
