Which Front Shocks to Buy?

So I have 2" Lift hangers/shackles, with sagged out springs. Do I order shocks for a stock truck, or order shocks based on length? Never purchased them before. What to look for? brands?

Randy, my money's on Rancho. The 5000 series I believe? Either that or Bilstein, although mine's a D350 and not lifted. I still think the Rancho's will work for you though. www.gorancho.com

I'm running Procomp on the back and rough country on the front. I think the Procomps are better.

If you have the coin, I would definitely go with Bilsteins. After 1 year im not really in love with my Ranchos

What is the benefit of the high dollar shocks. I just don't know anything about them.

I thought Bilsteins were a little cheaper than the Ranchos? Well, whatever. AFAIK, the more expensive shocks are adjustable, (like on a motorcycle, kind of) and have a bigger piston diameter. Probably a more robust build as well, (heavier hardware.)
I can't say about the ride quality though. As Slingshot said, he doesn't like the Ranchos. Some guys love 'em, others prefer Bilsteins. I seem to recall Faith/Wannadiesel saying she put stockers on her rear end and thinks they do fine, although she's got a D350. Kinda hard to say from other peoples opinions, might just have to jump in the deep end. As you say, at least the Ranchos will match the rest of the truck!

From: A 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.
probably get whatever you want (price, color or whatever reason) because stock springs dont really move at all.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I need new fronts, but my rears are junk (Original). Any good reason to replace them too?

New Rancho 5000's on the front of my truck Randy and I put the adjustable 9000xl on the back just in case. Run them at neutral now. Like $60 for the fronts and $80 for the backs if I remember correctly. Made a noticeable difference in my truck. I like em.

Personally, I would stay away from Bilstein and other high-tech (monotube) shocks. Although monotube technology is clearly superior to twin-tube technology (especially for racing applications), the side effect is a stiffer ride which is the last thing most of us want on a First Gen. Save yourself some money and go with Ranchos.

This old thread has more detail:

I had Rancho 9000's at both ends and did not like them. Rode too harsh even on the softest setting.

Will try Bilsteins or the weakest shock ever made next time.

Wanna might be right; new stockers might be best.

Bilstein (or any other monotube) would never be described as "weak." And I agree with you -- my next shocks will be the weakest units I can find.
