Front brake backing plates?

Does anybody know where to get new sheet matal backing plates for the front disk brakes on my W350?

I have tried my local dealer, auto parts stores and the internet...

Or should I just leave them off? If I lived in a less slushy/muddy place I would do this, but I don't.

Maybe used? Are they the same as the gassers?

Thanks.

On a rat for I was making I used a set of stainless steel dishes obtained from ask mart. They were intended to be used under one of the old stove top electric burners. I don't know where to get a set of backing plates. Hope you find a set or try being a red neck like me. Good luck.

When I replaced mine, I used 1 ton Chevy plates that I found on E-bay. They fit perfectly and were aabout twice as thick.

Thanks.

I'll look into the Chevy backing plates, but I do like the idea of some pie tins under there or maybe some plastic frizbees, they will never rust...
