15-40w for engine (for most temps) I use delo400, for diff I guess most also use 85-90w gear oil I use synthetic, for tranny I can't tell You bc I have the stick.

For the tranny the owners manual says ATF+3, but I believe that on the dipstick it says dex III. I would run dex III with a bottle of friction modifier if it shifts too hard.

Especially since the dexIII is 1/3 the price of ATF+3!!

Diffs and transfer case all take 80W-90. If the truck tows heavy, use an 85W-140 synthetic in the rear diff.

Be informed when purchasing engine oil and READ the API ratings.

You want API--CI-4; you DO NOT want API--CJ-4, even though it will read API--CJ-4, CI-4, etc.; you want the first designation to be CI-4 with no mention whatsoever of CJ-4.

Do some looking and you will find a ton of discussion explaining the why of all this; suffice it to say that the government made oil distributors take all the protection out of engine oil on account of something in it disabling catalytic-converters; the labels will state "safe for emission controlled engines" or somesuch and will read API--CJ-4

This is what I use :

To be more precise, in the case of the HDEO's (heavy duty engine oil), the government mandated lower diesel particulate emissions, so the oil companies developed their CJ-rated formulas to support DPF's (diesel particulate filters). The CJ oils just use different additive formulas to do an even better job of wear protection than the the old ZDDP-laden stuff.

There's nothing wrong with the latest API CJ rated oils. Except maybe to inspire another round of Internet alarmist myth-makers, like so many things seem to do these days. I doubt you are soon going to begin seeing 07-up Cummins trucks dropping like flies along the roads because the oil they are required to run is no good. On the contrary, if you are running a modded older truck with alot of fueling you might want to consider running the CJ oil for better soot control.

On the subject of the tranny fluid, I just did a service on the 727 in my '71 New Yorker with DexVI. Dexron VI is the latest GM spec for what basically amounts a newer synthetic Dexron. I believe it allows for a GroupIII base just like the ATF+ spec, not sure. Still high quality stuff. Anyway that tranny has a full-on TF2 shift kit installed and it ran well on DexIII, chirped 2nd at WOT going 60mph. I haven't had time to get many miles on yet since doing the service just 2 weeks ago, but initial impressions are good. Seemed a bit smoother on shifts, otherwise normal. I believe this is going to be the best option to fill the 727s and A518s. JMHO, based on personal experience.

No you need to adjust it tighter, make it have no extra play at WOT. As in move the adjuster towards the front of the truck. I've got mine mostly forward.
