I had a 2002 truck first. HO, 6 speed, fuel box, all the goodies. I sold it after 80k miles because I wanted a 1st gen that I could play with. Making 500 dollar a month payments made it hard to afford to do fun stuff to the truck. All my play money was going to the finance company every month.

I finally got what I want, and that's a 1st gen. I paid 2000 for it and have since doubled my investment in the last 2 months with new parts and upgrades, but I've never been happier. Much more money will be invested in the next few months too. But, it's paid for.

This one is the keeper.

This first Gen was my second vehicle, and I'm only 17. My twin brother got a first Gen for his first vehicle, and I'll admit I was a little jealous of that power, all I had was a little 4-banger tacoma. Now I got mine, and I absolutely love it. I wouldn't trade this truck for the world. Its a tank too.

I own a 1st gen because I don't buy vehicles I can't afford to pay cash for the day I drive them home. I have alot more money in my bank and mutual funds with that mentality, not to mention insurance and taxes that is 1/4 that of a newer truck.

I also like the styling and simplicity.

For hard use my dad has had both, and i got to say that that the 1st gens hold up much better than 2nd gens do under a farmers beating.

I would love to have 1st gen... But since I have a wife and kid it is a little hard to find a resonably priced 1st gen Club Cab in Good shape. I Paid $4000 for my 98.

Still trying to convince the wife to let me get one though.

I love the look and ride of a "real truck" on the 1st gens. Just like my 78 w100.

Well its not the cost because I can buy a second gen for what I can get for my first gen, but who in their right mind wants to buy a truck to drive cross country and see 4 million other trucks just like it? I enjoy the looks I get and the compliments I get. I don't see many other 1st gens out there pulling 5th wheels like me. My truck and trailer are paid for and have been for years and I do have cup holders so I can sip whatever I want while cruising down the road. I do see a few but I see lots of newer trucks out there.

I am at the same place. Single cab is buggin. Oh well. Need repairs. Love body style. Love the old style windows.

Cant get over my first gen. Even if I buy something new, I dont think I could sell my first gen, as it is worth more to me than anyone I could sell it to. I would keep it as a work truck and drive whatever I got as a daily driver.

Wink

I pulled my camper with my 93 last summer, had a guy come walking up and he said he was clear in the back of the campground, and he could tell a first gen,had pulled in from the soundof it. He had traded his 92 for a 2002,and said he regreted it almost a soon as he did it. Said the only thing he liked about the newer truck was the ride.

I got a 1st gen because i allways liked them Dad had a 1982 D-150 that i learned to drive in and my buddy giving me a sweat deal on my 93 ($2500) helped a bunch. I also have a 2nd 24valve, I like the truck but not the cost of things plus thank god i have the 1st gen or i would be truck less since the 99 is always broke and with no cash to fix it all the time it seams to stay broke. I really should sell the 99 and buy another 1st gen. I have noticed with the 1st gen you get alot more looks and thumbs up then with the 2nd gen.

I bought mine because I wanted a Cummins (note my handle) and 1st gens were what was affordable at the time. The more experience I have gotten working on the newer trucks, the more I like my 1st gen. I don't see this truck as a stepping stone for me, I will run it until something goes wrong that I can't justify fixing. I suppose it's a lifestyle, but it doesn't seem as wacky as those IDI Ford guys. They are rabidly opposed to other engines even though theirs have very few good points, and many bad ones.

Oddly enough a friend of my dad's loves the IDI Fords. He has had numerous since I was a kid, and still has ones that he can buy up and drive the heck out of for work trucks and whatnot. A while back he mentioned to me he was getting a 'new' truck, so I asked "what kind, powerjoke? Dodge Cummins?" and he replies "nope, an '85 6.9". When I asked him what year the one he was driving then was, he says "its an '89". I asked why the step back in years, and he said "clean body, low miles".

Looks like some people just like what they like.

I've had a 2000, a 2003, then the 93, which was wrecked 6 months later, found a 98, and rebuilt the 93. Keeping the 93 and the 98. They each have their uniqueness, and I enjoy driving both.
Plus, my kids are almost old enough to drive, and my daughter likes the looks of the 93, and it'll do her just fine pulling her horse around. Once you have a 1st gen, it's hard to let it go.

Like many of the others, I like the simplicity, reliability and classic looks of the 1st generation trucks. The lower prices are an added bonus.

I consider them a stepping stone, stepping away from blowing money on a truck payment on a truck which became worth less with each additional payment.
