Finally got a winch mounted on a truck.
Well I have had this winch for about 8 years and figured it was time to put it on something. Built a square bumper on a square truck and she is ready to go. I built it as a double receiver style and have plans to build a rear bumper as well so it can go on either end. I also have a wireless remote for it, but until I switch cabs I am not going to wire up any more in the old one that will just need to be put in the new one. I also got a 1500 watt inverter, but may wait to put that in for the same reason. I need to get some quick connectors for the battery cables so I can pull it off and store it under cover when not in use. Right now its hard wired just to try it out. Its a 12,000 pound Mile Marker. I am also going to build a bull bar/ brush gaurd onto this bumper. I need to get some more metal for that. I plan on total coverage protection for the whole front. The bumper will be so heavy when I am done the rear wheels will be off the ground.

That looks nice, get yourself a pair of heavy Anderson connectors so you can remove it from the mount, how many amps does it draw at stall?
Dual batteries and a 110-555JHO 160-amp alternator would be a good idea along with a high idle kicker or a vernier control cable.
Replace both of the hitch pins with locking pins so it doesn't get stolen.

Jim, where would I get " Anderson " connectors? I plan on dual batteries in the future, but don't want to add to many gismo's before the truck gets an overhaul. And yes, things do walk off by themselves, even in little old new england. I have not read the book on amps at stall so not sure there. I do plan on adding a hand idle too. Baby steps.
I think NAPA can still order them, a lot of High Performance shops have them and they sell them like they are something special, A fastener specialty shop locally wanted $40.00 for each side.
BUT find yourself a Forklift Repair shop that services electric lifts, to them it is just another part I got them for $12.00 per side or $24.00 set.
Check out page 22/23 if you do not know what they are.
Only matched colors will mate with each other, chose the size according to the amps you are going to draw.

I have seen those before. Floor machine's have those type as well for charging the batteries. I have one here at the house thats on a 36 volt charger I dragged home from my uncles house. To bad I only have one end. ( low amps as well ). Thanks Jim. I also thought about welding cable extension ends. I have those on my long welding leads. They turn to lock.
looks good, I built a winch plate and mount kinda like that for my friend's 2nd gen. I did the same thing and welded a plate on a piece of reciever tube so it can be mounted on the front or back in the receiver. I made plate with receiver hitch that mounted to the frame on the front.I added some handles on the plate as well becuase it is pretty heavy! It was also a Mile Marker winch, just a 9,500 lb one though. He said the guy he got it from said that it'd do 12,000 lbs but just had to go a lot slower. In the instructions it said this 9500 lb one would suck 375 amps at full load!
You better leave your truck running when using it haha.
He was gonna use some of those welding quick connects that turn and lock like your talking about and I think that'd be the best way to go, maybe a little pricey though. I know Cal-Ranch had some of those connectors in a smaller size for a decent price. For now I think he will just put a wing nut on the battery terminal end and connect it on the front like that then use battery cables on the rear if he needs to use it in the back.
Like Pulltilbroke said, you could also make a nice weight bar for truck pulling with that bumper. I'm making myself a big hefty 1/4" thick bumper right now and bracing it, it should be about as heavy as the cummins when I'm done and maybe I won't need a weight bar

The winch will be locked away while I'm not using it. I don't want the weather on it anyway. I see guys run there winches year round in the salt. I bet every solonoid and connection plus the cable and motor are junk.
I live in Southern California and I have had people steal things right out of my front yard in broad daylight, trash diggers walked up and stole the battery right off the front of my travel trailer.
This is why I have 13 video cameras watching my property 24/7 including cameras watching my truck.
I was changing the brakes on my truck, I came out from under my truck and caught a guy trying to steal my tires stacked on the other side of it.
Now every vehicle that drives down our street has the license plate number recorded.
