Factory Tach

Quick question. Does anybody know how to get the factory tach taken apart in a 91? I just did a led swap on the cluster (Great write up by the way) but I realized I need a led for the tach too. Just need to get the old bulb out so I can tell what to order. Thanks guys!

I believe you just unscrew the screw at the back of the tach and the cover will slide off. Its been a few years since I had mine apart. Depending on how its mounted, you might need to take it off the dash first.

Beware, the bulbs in these tachs are an oddball glass-wedge size.
I had to replace some in an "oem supported" tach once.
I looked and looked and looked and ended up settling on something that didn't quite fit right, but they worked nonetheless.

With the age of these tachs, I'd recommend double-checking their accuracy, since they are pushing 20-odd years old.

Electronics like tachometers can lose vitality over time and can go out of spec.

Mark.

Ok ill check it out a little more. I'm not too worried about it now though. I put the led's in and drove it last night and hated it. The led's are WAY too bright. Took em out and put just regular bulbs back in. There goes 30 bucks... Oh well. Thanks guys!

I like mine, all except the hi beam indicator. I had to take it back out because I couldn't even see out the windshield when it was lit.

Don't get me wrong the LEDs are great quality are very bright and a good bargain from superbrightleds but dang lol. My entire dash was green lol. I mean everything. Sometimes old technology is just better suited though

I ran into the same thing. I changed them out for blue incandescent bulbs. They give off a nice glow that doesn't bother my eyes.
