Check your local laws, here any device between manifold and tail pipe is a "muffler", your turbocharger is in the middle of those. I've used that grey area a few times. Other than that fte diesel makes some nice products.

I'd find a scrap piece of pipe an inch or 2 bigger that your current exhaust, split it, and weld it over your pipe in a spot. They don't know it's hollow.

TVdiesel.com sells one for $269 shipped with a muffler. I've heard good about the Aeroturbine muffler.

I find it amazing that your state does inspections on diesel trucks. Here in (the most over regulated state in the country.... besides CA) a couple of years back, they eliminated inspections on diesel trucks... or at least on mine which are all registered over 10K

It's still done @ the local roadside checkpoints, but the state no longer requires me to go down and do the yearly wasting my time routine...

This is the system most of us run..... which you would discover is you used the search feature.

Best pricing and free shipping.

EDIT:

Wow, Paul put that in right before me....... oh well... double post, I guess.

That won't work here in Texas, I had a friend that tried. According to the law, a turbo is not considered a muffler. The best solution is to find a used truck muffler and ram a pipe though it. They take they muffler rule seriously in some places and want an actual muffler.

Just register it at over 10k here in NJ and you're good to go. I've been running a straight pipe for over a year now and never gotten pulled over.

When registered over 10K , I believe you're supposed to stop @ the local roadside inspections, such as on the parkway south, or on rt 287 north. Since you don't have any lettering on your truck, I guess you're just going to have to stay lucky and not get pulled over.

I'm not..my truck weighs nowhere that. My father is though. He had been getting it inspected until it was up in May and they wouldn't inspect his truck. They told him he was in trouble if he got caught registered at 7k (he was registered at that since new in Nov. 03) and they made him go re-register it immediatly.

Why ?

What did they want him to do ?

Not understanding what the issue is, other than being "under weight registered".

I have mine registered @ 12k so that when I pull a trailer I'm still in compliance.

NJ is retarded in the sense that they want a CGRVW on your registration so that the entire weight of the truck, passengers, fuel, and TRAILER are accounted for.

Combined Gross Registered Vehicle Weight...... you would think to have the truck registered for what it could carry would be enough while having a trailer that was registered for it's capacity..... but NO !

Stupid state we live in.

Its illegal to register it under the actual weight listed on the door jamb even though thats what the Dealer told him to register the truck at. The officer pulled him over because he came out of the inspection station with a bad sticker and gave him a warning and told him to take care of that immediatly. I'm not sure why but it certainly is just another part of the stupid state we live in.
