exhaust question

First time in a chat room; bear with me. Have inherited a 1993.5 W250 (CTD with automatic) from my dad. Only 58k miles. Was 100 percent stock. I installed monotubes (Pro-Comp) and 265/70 tires. While installing the shocks I noticed a crease in the tailpipe. In looking for a replacement tailpipe on the Web I came across complete new exhaust systems -- 3.5-inch (Flowmaster) and 4.0-inch (Bully Dog). Will either of these help my gas mileage? Thanks in advance.

Welcome james1
Yes both of those will help your gas milage. Also try bigexhaust.com and stansheaders.com for other exhaust options. Big exhaust will let you just buy the tail section if you want too.

Welcome
Ben

Thanks for weighing in. Note that bigexhaust.com does NOT support 1st Gen. Like MogPuller, I'm finding that 95 percent of the websites offer parts beginning in model year 1994. Give me a couple of days and I'll pen a piece on how I made Pro-Comp monotubes work on my 1993. Far far superior to Rancho twintubes. Does anyone else have an opinion about whether or not a 4-inch exhaust is worth the expense? Perhaps a BHAF is a better first mod.? I'm looking to start inexpensively doing mods I can complete myself with relative ease. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get a 4" exhaust for about 300.00. minus the down pipe. for your truck. I didn't notice any change in gas mileage, and very little diff in EGT between a 3" pipe dented nearly 1/3 closed above the rear axle, and a straight piped 4" system with 3" down pipe. Just me, You might be different!
Peter.

Does it need a complete exhaust right now? At some point down the slippery slope 4" exhaust becomes necessary when you start pushing the fuel to it.

Try Rip at http://sourceautomotive.biz/
See what he has available. Might have something laying around.

Welcome James,
I have a Rip Rook 4 inch DP, And I love every minute of it. A larger exhaust (more free flowing) does allow for fuel mileage, and power, and lower EGT's. It is worth every penny! If you have the dough get the full system from him, hes a great guy, and just to name a small thing that is kind of big, when I got my DP all the adapters were marked where to cut just to ease the install. look him up, http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/sa_dodge-exh.htm
Good luck, and have fun on the slippery slope, its a fun ride!
