Engine rebuild
Just wanted to give an update- took the truck to a more experienced shop which only works on cummins and prefers gen 1 and 2s. Said it all was fine and the engine doesn't need work. Fix a leaky ps line and install the 16 cm exhaust housing- they expect it will be ready after lunch.

Wow, from rebuilding the motor, to just swapping out the turbo housing and fixing a leaky PS line.
Sounds like you just saved yourself, a lot more money than you would have just calling Geico..
Are you swapping out the housing from the factory 18CM one of the "Lagmaster" 21CM housing used on some '92/'93 autos?

I'm not sure what housing my 1991.5 has- 18 or 21 cm. But it's going to get a 16 cm housing today.
Yep- second opinion was better than the first. Second guys were way more familiar and have at least 15 years experience doing only cummins powered dodge trucks.

did mine a year ago, thinking like you, after tear down, cleaned and honed bores, they were in xlnt shape, went with re-ring set, new later head, low oil pressure from worn rod bearings, machine shop checked crank and just micro polished, i fleabayed a all original cummins kit for very reasonable price.
