How many miles? What has been done to the fuel system- pump/ injector service? Do you have any gauges on it?

Check your lift pump pressure. Adjust your valves. Check your timing. INjectors need to be removed to check pop pressure and atomization.

This should be a good place to start.

i start with gauges, change all the fluids, kill the kdp, adjust the valves, fuel filters, new lift pump or a fuel pressure gauge, belts, flush the cooling system, check the inter cooler for leaks and clean it, check the air filter. what shape is the turbo in, does it have excessive play up down side to side

How would one clean the intercooler. Blow some air through it?

No really, I don't know how.

Pressure washer.

Sounds like after 270,000 miles maybe your fuel pressure is down and your lift pump is bad.

Air filter dirty? All connections between airbox and turbo are good?

CHECK THIS- elbow from bottom of turbo to intercooler is tight and not leaking.
