Continuing with parts carried, I have spare alternator, serpentine belt (old one, new one's on), U-joint kit, lift pump, front wheel bearing set, wheel cylinder, fuel filter, wheel nuts and studs, and 12V air pump and tire puncture repair kit. Much of this stuff stays in my trailer along with spares for the trailer including a 120VAC genny. Tools I add to the above long-handle pliers, vice-grips, 4" vice bolted on steel flatbed, 2 ton hydraulic "picker", several come-alongs, two steel chains, tow rope and assorted tie-down straps (necessary using flatbed). Sorry this got so long; it appears that I'm downright paranoid about buying parts en route.

I carry a leatherman, led stinger flashlight, couple gallons of water, 1 gallon of oil, and a few quarts of brake fluid.
My most important tool I carry is my cell phone. But I haven't had to ever use my phone for some one to come. I understand some of you guys travel long distances with your trucks and when I do I do throw in a set of tool with a few extra parts, but for the most part my truck is driven local, so I feel I have no need to carry the extra weight and noise of tools and parts rolling around in the tool box.

How about a headlight switch, phillips and a flat screwdriver.

hey-Hey!!!,
I am a lot less equipped that some ov y'all. Stuff I put in the 'MANDATORY' category are:
17mm open-end to bleed injectors.
Channel-locks to get the spare free
Spare fuse for electric fuel pump.

Stuff I should carry:
spare pre-filter for electric fuel pump
spare main fuel filter
motor oil( likely in 1 gallon jug )
jug of coolant
jumper cables( never know when you'll find a damsel in distress )

cheers,
Douglas

Fan Belt, and tools to change it. I'm really considering the fire extinguisher idea pretty hard now!

10 MM will go a long way. Nobody should ever need an oil filter wrench. They are not supposed to be that tight !!
Maybe a serpintine belt but Definatly 2 extra bearings for the belt tensioner.
NAPA part # 6203-2ZJ or 6203-2RSJ
when these bearings sieze up, and sooner or later they will, your belt will shread to pieces.

you guys are killing me. I was thinking just a small bag for under the seat. Only parts I carry are a fuel filter, serp belt, and vr. I also always have a little elec contact jelly- this stuff usually fixes the pain in the *** TPS issues. I learned to keep a little on the tps connetction and on the trans. The big monster tool box is out of the question for me, I roll with one of these:

A comfortable and safe place for my retrievers. It does have storage underneath and enough room for a hydraulic bottle jack, chains, jumper cables and such.

What Stuff Can Bean You In A Roll-Over

As I was compiling my list I realized that some heavy stuff could conk me a good one if I were to roll over, so as a follow-on question with this thread: what's in your cab that would endanger you in a roll-over? ...

That is a great question I always worry about this as well with my little ones in car seat. I have been in a roll over and I prefer nothing that can bop anyone in the head.

Test light, maybe a small voltmeter, multi-screwdriver, crimper and assortment of wire connectors are always in my truck, especially when towing.

I carry the sockets for the wheel bearings in my truck normally always for long trips. Standard tools, vise grips. Non A/C serp belt for if the a/c locks up or belt goes.

^--- The non-ac serp belt is a great idea too!
