Dyno Numbers

Hey guys! Just got off the Dyno here at school. My best run was in 5th gear, and i made 196 horsepower, and 475 pounds of torque (1500 rpm). All I have done is 4" from the downpipe back to 5" stacks, hx-35, k&n filter, and star wheel tweaked. I am probably going to turn up my full power screw, finish my 4" downpipe, and bump the timing 1/8" before my next run. Do you guys think my numbers are accurate?

either your hp is really high or your tq is really low.
no fuel pin mod of any sort or no fuel screw tampering or injectors? do you mean 196 hp?

With those mods 196hp/475tq would make perfect sense.

Also, shouldn't you dyno in 4th gear because it's a straight 1:1 ratio with the crank through the tranny to the wheels? Giving the most accurate power reading.

yeah, sorry. 196 horsepower. typo. I ran in 4th gear and 5th gear, both a few times, but 5th came out the best. Oh, and it is never direct, because I have a 3.55 gear ratio in my rear end.

well I guess that's true, I forgot about the factor of the differential somehow. I seem to not think through what I'm going to say and end up saying stupid things a lot. That said, there really are so many factors to consider where the power is lost going from the flywheel to the pavement.
As for power numbers. 196/475 seem pretty good for not really doing anything to add fuel. Just opening things up a bit and letting 'er breathe a little better.

4th is considered direct 5th is overdrive. Meaning a 1:1 ratio thru your trans 1 engine rpm to a 1 rpm outlet on your trans not to the ground. If all is stock as you say your numbers aren't to bad tq seems a little low but maybe not. Some tweeking and adj. you should jump up quite a bit. Fuel screw in and turn your fuel pin and a good gain there. Good luck.

What type of dyno did you run on - Mustang - Dyno Jet or other?

A Mustang dyno allows for too much operator input - in my opinion. They will generally generate more torque than DynoJet or a Dyno Dynamics dynos due to the fact Mustang Dynos are a load Dyno. I have run in 4th - direct and 5th - OD and seen only minor differences in RWHP and Torque. What I have seen is your best runs will generally be the first two runs. After that numbers can drop.

I guessed 196hp in your last post too! hahaha.

Not bad for not touching the power screw! And I've been told that being in OD will result better torque numbers somewhere.

It wasn't much difference from 4th to 5th. It isn't much of an overdrive though.

Nice numbers.

Bump that timing up and add 50 ft lbs to theat torque number, and turn that fuel pin!
