How many miles on your truck? You should create a signature with your truck info! Reason I ask is if your rig has lots of miles and you're pulling the POWR-LOK you should go ahead and replace the clutch discs. It's not so much fun that you 'll want to do it again anytime soon. LS symptoms usually happen with a warmed up truck while making turns, grabbing and jerking and some noise during the turn is what my truck was doing. If the side gears or case are worn there'll be some play. To remove the case/carrier and ring gear you need to pull the axles, remove the caps and carefully pry the works out of the housing. Set-up some blocks of wood and or ramp to roll the unit onto. That sucker is heavy and you don't want to drop it and hurt yourself or damage it. You can use an axle in a vise as a stand to disassemble the case. If you set up the "stand" vertically beware that when you remove the last case bolt it will slide down the axle rapidly - ask me how I know! If you do a search you'll find better instructions including a link to actual Dana factory instructions and that info might even be in the "sticky" section. Good luck and God bless!

All you have to do is pop the axles out and remove the 4 bolts holding the carrier bolts. 5 minutes work if you have an air wrench.

You got to remove them bolts on the end away from the ring gear, the clutch discs are inside the case. Did you find the POWR-LOK instructions, they'll help.

What type of grease? Gear oil, 80 or 85w90 or 140 depending on the temperature and use, with additive if you have a limited slip.

As far as the pictures go, someone else will have to comment, IMGs take forever to load on dial-up. Dial-up sucks.

The gears look fine. The clutches are hiding behind the side gears.

I got the diff apart, how much (if any) of the disks coating should be gone?? I have some wear through the the perimeter of the outside and inside. Should they be replaced?? One of the disks has some wearing into the steel.

They are done. There should be no steel on steel.

Yup, x2 what Wanna said. But if you are really strapped for cash you could leave those for a little while. On mine there was absolutely no friction left. It was all steel on steel. My gears were damaged a little bit. Before I got into it I thought I had an open rear end because when the rear end was jacked up the wheels freely spun in opposite directions just like an open. I was SHOCKED when I realized what was going on. Guess I got lucky.

How do the rear wheel bearings get their lubrication?? They don't look like they are packed like the fronts. I assume the diff lubricant travels down the axle shaft... Since its all apart it would be a good time to pack these, if needed.

Yup. I have read where some guys, when they are done doing rear end or brake service, like to jack up one side, then the other to get oil to run out to the wheel bearings.
