Dream build of a 92 Cummins engine
Dream build of a 92 Cummins engine
So I got this truck I am going to do a build up, frame off literally, starting in a couple months. It's a 92 Dually (conversion I think, not stock)- frame has been hacked so much it's not funny, electrical is just rotted away, motor, trans, axles are great. I got a one ton 92 gasser frame, and a 72 titled cab I am gong to use for this build. Will probably have to buy off oliver or someone an entire wiring harness though- one of the suckier parts of this build.
It's also my first opportunity to build a Diesel motor, or modify it anyway- it runs good except needs a new injector pump. Too much **** water run through it, was new when I bought the truck- I just could not for the love of god keep water out of that fuel tank for some reason!
So my question to the board is this - if you had a 92 VE pump motor, and the opportunity to modify it for more HP- whats the best route?
Lets have fun with this?
Can go crazy with it, in a couple ways-
1) Realistic mods that are fairly easy to do while the motor is out anyway that will give it more reliability (like KDP) , or turbo changes, exhaust etc, VE pump mods
2) Go harder, make it a P pump motor (It's really hard to find one on this island) etc.
I am most likely going to go with option one, it's what I generally do even on my race cars LOL.
It's my first real time really getting into a diesel and first time obviously with a cummins.
This is a really good place to daydream a bit, I mean, what would you do in my position, and you had a up to say, 10k budget? Or maybe a 2500-5000 budget on just the motor?
One thing I am struggling with is I would really love to change it to a manual trans instead of auto- not sure if that will be realistic- the cab is a 4 speed truck, so pedals and such are easy part.
