Drag Raced the truck,....

At the 2010 Ford IDI Rally we were able to drag race our trucks thanks to my buddy Chris for setting up that event, It was a ton of fun and we were able to see what our trucks with one pass at the dragstrip.

I have been wondering what my truck would run compared to the new trucks on the market, so this month's Diesel Power Magazine has a shootout with all of the 2011 big 3 Diesel Trucks. They drag raced them empty and towing at the strip and up grades.

Here are the results of the Drag Race:

F350 CC Dually curb weight 8540 Ran a 17.40 at 84 MPH
GMC CC Dually cub weight of 8100 ran a 16.60 at 86 MPH
Ram CC Dually curb wight of 8060 ran a 18.00 at 80 MPH

(Curb Weight is fuel fuel tank and no driver.)

Big Ed with actual race weight of 8240 ran a 16.58 at 81 MPH

These trucks are just under 400HP and and 750 Torque. The Dodge was the least with 350hp and 650 Torque.

Here is a video of the IDI drag race, There are 4 races mine is the last one at about 2:30 most of the IDI's were 5speed sticks and ran at the 19 and 20 second pace.

So I think its pretty cool that my ole rig will run with the Big Dogs that cost $60K and up.

How many were still saying "IDI 'till I die" after that demonstration?

That video shows the quantum leap Dodge made past Ford and GM when they put the Cummins in in '89.

To be fair, we did get a 15.40 out of the GMC dually with a boosted launch in 4wd, but your mph still shows you're right there!

Yea I know, it is pretty easy to poke fun at ,.. IDI;s are slower than a Cummins,... No news flash there..

Most of these trucks were 5 hours to 13 hours from home, 3 of the trucks were from your neighborhood in Delta PA. All were towing some sort of 5ver camper or trailer, So when you are that far from home you tend not to want to break your truck. We all took it easy on our runs. We just wanted to have the experience of drag racing and see what they will do. The race before mine was Suzie in the Dually and her son in the Black F150 night with an IDI 5sp conversion.

Next years Rally is in your neck of the woods in Pine Grove PA, Bring up your Cummins and see how it goes, we would be glad to have you there. It is held over the 4th of July.

To be fair, we did get a 15.40 out of the GMC dually with a boosted launch in 4wd, but your mph still shows you're right there!
I did see that notation and wondered about that, thanks for the info. I also was wondering why the GMC 3500 Dually was so much faster than the lighter 2500 with the same driveline. Are you affiliated with Diesel Power Mag,.?

I have done boosted launches but it burns the back tires pretty good so when I raced I just gave it a little throttle pedal but not a full boost launch. Didn't want to do a full 4wd boost launch 5 hours from home. But it was a lot of fun!

What does 4x4 do to make that big of a difference on that dually? does it really have traction inssues in 2wd? that's unbelievable being it's a dually but those things put out massive torque.

And wow IDI's are slow. haha.

Come to Pine Grove next year I'll show ya how a 1st gen 5 speed with stock INjectors gets it done

My dually sure has a traction problem. Last time I was at the track I couldn't hook when I was leaving with 2psi. There was a guy with a 4x4 leaving with 30 psi and had no traction issues.

Yea but a 2011 GMC has a locking rear and traction control, and still has traction issues? d-maxes are beast in 2011

I can't believe the 6.7 is still stuck back at 650tq when the GMC and ford are in the mid 700's.

come on cummins !!!

You're not old enough to remember when Chrysler rated the 426 Hemi at 'only' 425 HP ---

That was a REAL laugh.

425hp and ran low 9's in the hemi dart and hemi barracuda. The curves were still going up on the dyno charts but they just stopped looking at them after a certain rpm.

its off topic but real quick. I just get tierd of seeing trucks that are bought not built in magazines. Its not custom to me if every part you have is orderd out of a magazine. Seems like every truck in the magazines now a are 2012 that someone orderd every part they could find in an add and bolted it on . Then had someone else throw some paint on it and called it theres . His truck was built by him . Like my truck was a work truck when i got it it was beat to he.. And back ive done 2 years worth of body work slowly getting it to straight again and i am proud of it.
