Door hinge sag / new bushings

my drivers door is sagging, and the hinge is tearing the sheet metal door apart. the door will have to be replaced eventually, for now i just want to deal with the sag and get it to close easier. the sagging looks like it's coming from a worn bushing in the lower hinge, my question is how do i go about replacing that? Any tips on getting the hinge pin out?

Drive out the pin with a hammer and a punch. Replace the bushings and tap the pins back in. If the door is breaking near the hinge it will make the door sag. Maybe just pull the door off and beat it back into shape and weld the cracks up. The pins alone may not fix the problem.

I hate to think about switching over the lock and pulling all the wires out and dealing with a new door. If i can weld it I'd be happiest. i read on here somewhere somebody took off the "s" spring clip that makes the door stop halfway open and all the way open. is that worth anything?

Mine was beat back together on the bottom hinge and welded when I bought it. I saw it just after I bought it and didnt think it would last. But it has for a few years now. My sagging issues is hinge pins alone.

I wouldn't remove it the door will always want to close on its own.

To me replacing the pin and bushings are worthless. I bought a couple new lower hinges from my local dealer two years ago. I am not sure if they are still available but worth looking into. I always found that the bushing would come out shortly after the install.

That is about my experience.

I put new pins/bushings is several of the Dodge doors around here and had to re-engineer the set-up to finally make them last.

I can't rightly remember just what I done, but it involved drillingand lock-pinning something maybe.

I will have to examine one that I fixed to see just what I did do.

A friends 1st Gen. driver door has broken around the top hinge.

He has not fixed it yet, but I believe that mig-welding or riveting a long/wide piece of heavy steel inside the door, spreading out the strain, and then bolting the hinges to that, would fix the problem for now and all time to come.

I just picked up a parts truck with nice doors on it to fix my bad door problem. My driver's door sags, is cracked, leaks water when it rains, and it got a lot worse one day when I opened the door in a wind storm and a gust caught the door and yanked it open really hard... ouch!

The parts truck has manual doors, but I'm hoping I can put my power regulators in them.

I have just the opposite situation; the good doors I want to use on the son's truck have all that power junk in them and we very much prefer manual stuff.

My drivers door has the same problem. it sags and the bottom of it broke out from the sheet metal. My grandpa welded it before i got it since it used to be his truck, but its not too straight and it needs to be done better. I've just dealt with it but need to do somethin about it. My passenger door is good as new though.

I did that when I replaced my pass side door that had power windows, with one that did not. It was pretty easy, but you need a big pop rivet tool like this one

Not hard at all...Mark

There's a link in the sticky about putting power stuff in manual doors.
