Does anyone have an upgraded converter in a plow/towing truck?

your not figuring in the cost of the 47rh.

you already have the 518 is the nice part. Get it rebuilt with some alto clutches/HD bands and a shift kit and buy the converter and you have something nice for the street/strip/towing.

Zach had to pay decent money for his used 47rh... and i believe if i remember correctly archer39 said he had $3000 wrapped up in the whole swap? i think

I'm not against the swap at all but its a conversion really. Its not like bolt in like your 518 is.

My theory is, do the 47rh if you stumble over it. If you buy a converter for the 518 and then you do a 47rh he'll take the goerend back and you can make up the $$$ difference between the goerend 518 TC and the 47rh TC.

It was about 3 grand in the end. that was figuring in all the miscellaneous stuff like spray paint, trans fluid, cutting wheels, driveshaft lengthening, trans hoses, fittings, u-joint, and a number of other things i am sure i am forgetting.

Yes, I didn't factor the cost of picking up a 47RH trans whether it be used or rebuilt (but I know it's all part of the cost in the conversion process). If you can pick up a good, used 47RH in the $400-600 range then that would be ideal as it would most likely be the cheapest price you'd see for a full-size truck diesel transmission in good working order. And we all know one can be had for a price higher then stated above. Depends on where you go to get it being a junkyard, ebay, craigslist, etc. But yea having an A518 already is nice and the fact that it's a bolt-in deal is nice.

i always thought the "discs" was referring to the lock-up clutch.
anyhow, i installed the $550 goerend special. when i talked to him the difference between the two cheaper models was befor stall. the mid grade had an upgraded stator better for towing, where as the $550 had a machined factory stator. but once the two hit stall speed the where essentially the same performance wise.

I thought the $550 one had a less warranty then the $650 one, that being the only difference.

Then you could step up to the big bad $950 one.
