Disapointing night at the track

I took my pile to the track tonight and it only went 16.20. I went 16.00 before I put the fass in the dennyt pin on the goerend in and built the trans. I dont know what gives any ideas?

What was your sixty foot? I'd check the DennyT to make sure its getting full travel. You may have one of the soft ones and the fuel pin may be sticking.

I've got roughly the same mods as you minus the trans and the best I've done is 15.8 @82 with a 2.3 60'. Before that I did a 16.6 with a Dennyt pin that was grooved so it wasn't moving. Do you have good fuel pressure at WOT?

the new pins are all black. The old ones look chrome or polished or whatever afaik

maybe your shift points are all out of whack? I know with my truck even at WOT it always shifts way too soon so I manually shift it through the gears and it makes a big difference. were you manually shifting it or letting the trans do it all?

Or maybe you were spinning more than you thought you were. Is your rear a LS or open diff?

I was manually shifting it. I would wind the gear out till I saw the boost just start to fall off then I would shift it. That was right around 2700 rpm. Didnt seem to do much good when I did wind it up more. The truck has an open rear but was spinning all four tires casue I could feel the rear of the truck move around from side to side a little. I also aired them down to 20 psi.

I would let it shift automatically for consistency. Use the throttle-valve (TV) cable adjustment to alter the 3-speed WOT shift-points some (moving the cable adjustment thing toward the firewall will delay the shift-points). Adjust the TPS so 4th comes in as it should.

Keep in mind, torque is what gets things moving. Take advantage of the Cummin's torque peak (don't try to wind the engine up to 4K). Try having the trans shifting around 2300~2500rpm. Perhaps even earlier (experiment with it).

Being that you're 2WD, you're gonna be traction limited.

You are where i am right now... best times keep getting further away. I think it happens to be the off the line starts that is making it hard for us to see decent track times. Being that i change my style every time i race i am inconsistent. Although it seems if i wind the gears out or let the trans take the brunt of the shift i still end up with the same ET. Its when i miss a shift(go one 2 far) or wait too long to shift manually is when my time gets slower. Then when the trans fluid basically boils out of the case i drop about .5 or more. But even with my best time my 60 foot was still only a 2.5 or so there is a LOT of traction to be had!!!

Maybe you need more power to make full use of the converter. I know mine came up on power a lot quicker with the stock converter, and only lost about 25 hp on the top end (edit: when I was at 300rwhp, that is)....but it was ALWAYS in its powerband with the stock one, that's why they built em so loose from the factory.

I just cannot get the shift points right to let it shift itself. If I get second gear where it needs to be then third gear winds out way too far. Then if I get third where I want it second is way to early

You're probably going to have to drop the pan and adjust the shift point on the valve body itself.
