diesel spillage

so i was topping off my truck tonight when i noticed a small lake forming under my gas tank. was this coming out of the vent or some sort of hole designed to stop me from over filling the tank?

Its leaking from you overfilling. Don't overfill anymore. Stop when it stops. This is a Dodge truck problem. It leaks from the top of the tank at the sender I think is the correct term. The gasket or seal/whatever where it screws into the tank gets old, dry rotted etc. So when fuel gets over that level, ie starts climbing up the fill tube it leaks. Someday if when you ever drop the tank down for whatever reason, attend to this issue so you can top it off. Til then, no more overfilling. BTDT. Dumped probly 5 gallons of gasoline from my crewcab gasser at a truckstop, figured I better get the heck out of there before some idiot throws out a cig LOL....

I had that problem on my truck too, I fixed mine by just tightening
the threaded plastic ring that clamps down the sender unit. It just needed another half turn.
