Diesel Power article
Diesel Power article
Has anyone else seen the November issue of Diesel power?? There's an article in there about retorquing the heads bolts on the Cummins from the factory specs to 125 lb-ft. I think the factory specs are 100-115.
Any of the more knowledgeable folks know anything more about this. Is this something that should be done when setting the valves?

I had a similar question after seeing that article. The disclaimer says to attempt at your own risk, is this because the torque is higher and may snap a bolt OR because the motor has so many miles on it, and the bolts are brittle, creating the possibility of damage?
A little of both... Anytime you take an object beyoond its designed loads you run the risk of breaking it. weather it be turning up the fuel pump or re-torquing the head bolts. While the risk is VERY low it is still a risk. It s possible to stretch the bolts to far and break them. Also you dont even need to think about this in my opinion unless you are running 40psi or more or 35psi and high timing.
Here is the link of the article, I think I will do method 2... I might even do it tomorrow, I will post my results..
