Deer versus Truck

Truck wins. Really sucks, man. I stood over the lifeless animal shortly after and felt something awful. So precious life is. To think today was it's last day really sucks. Happened 30 minutes ago....don't mean to bog anyone down, but I will need a new grille and light assembly for now. The bumper can wait. Aside from a long search at the wrecking yards, where can I pick up a grille for a '93? Carmyne

Get a better bumper.
A deer stepped in front of my truck not long ago.
It didn't hurt my winch bumper or my Warn 8274 even a little.

I'm am actually happy it was me instead of some soccer mom in a Civic or something.
It would have landed in her lap.
I will NOT let my girlfriend drive a compact car.
I do not care how much fuel costs. I feel better with her driving a full size SUV.

Sorry to hear about your truck...and glad to hear your alright. Sometimes that can be more than just messy, it can be downright dangerous.

As for Bambi...at least it was quick. There are way worse (read slower, more painful) ways to go for a deer.

Try a search on Ebay for Dodge parts...there's a guy with an Ebay store who sells grill assy's and parts separately...and the prices are pretty decent...shipping isn't cheap though, that grill's pretty big.

This is a good lesson for the rest of us...if you live in "deer country" then the addition of a DDDD as a friend of mine refer's to them is a good idea.

A Deer Destruction Deterence Devise (or "serious" brush & bumper guard) is a good way to keep from getting your truck or yourself hurt...and a grill can be least of your problems.
Try replacing your intercooler and Radiator along with the grill and assorted other parts...that stuff gets expensive fast. You may never go fourwheeling...but the brush guard might be one of your best investments depending on where you live.
And HECK, built properly (like a cow catcher) it might even spare Bambi's life by bouncin' him into the ditch where can can run away....and wreck somebody else's car on a different day.

My sister met a deer with her car about 3 weeks ago , it was actually more like the deer met the car , it ran up out of the ditch right into the passenger side door, Bambi walked away with a headache , and the cavalier drove awaywith a serious dent in the door.

I was able to get all grill parts at www.partstrain.com. FYI for you all looking for 1st Gen parts, this place is pretty reasonable. I upgraded to an entire chrome grill w/o the black inserts inside of the grill frame for 156.00. Carmyne

I had a similar incident about 2 weeks ago. But it was a 6 point buck and he ran into the side of the truck. Broke his neck then his back end was run over by my rear tire. I stopped pulled out the pocket knife slit him down the backbone quickly removed the tenderloins put them in the cooler and proceeded to work. Once at work I saw that he had done quite a # on my drivers bedside in front of the rear wheel well. Bent it in buckeling it and bending the support brace, breaking the rear fender flare. I got an estimate they said new bedside and flare to a total of $2749. I took a hammer to it and straightened it out pretty good I am debating to leave it alone or put a flatbed on it.
By the way those tenderloins are quite tasty. Some pretty expensive meat though.

Are those deer warning whistles(sp) for real or are they a joke?

Some say those warning whistles work... some dont... 9 chances out of 10 they're better than nothing but the way I figure... with a good brush guard or plow piece... you dont need to worry all that much. If you have a heavy enough plow mount I can guarentee that hitting deer will become more of a passtime for some of you... Just try to avoid the ones with the horns and keep some spare headlights handy.

Now I don't care who ya' are...that's just funny!

Here's somethin' else kinda' strange since we just started talkin' about this...

Last night the Ex came over to visit the kids, and lo and behold, her driver's door won't open.
Seems Bambi (jeez that deer gets around) ran into the side of her car. He came flyin' out of the ditch and bounced-off the front fender...
Scared the dung out of her, and pushed the fender in just a bit...just enough to keep the door from opening.
So I went out, pulled all the deer fur out her chrome wheelwell moulding and popped the fender out...it seems like it just pushed it in on the mounting bolts.

Funnier thing was, it happened in a pretty urban area...it's not like she was way out in the country. Course,if it wasn't for bad luck...

I think I'm gonna' build me a big ole' "Mad Max" lookin' brush guard...like the ones they use to bounce Kangaroo's off of in the outback.

Wife has smacked 2 deer and one cow this year with her Toyota. All nice and spiffy for now, but gave me the excuse to add a little bit better bumper on MY truck.

Don't have a picture, but it is made from 4 inch casing with the normal diamond plate top. Grill is protected by 3x1 tubing and center is solid plate with the Dodge Ram head cut out of it. May try to find a camera to post pics.

I expect to have a little wear on the front end as the thing weighs about 275 pounds or better.

Come on guys, we gotta use our heads. Why waste money on those deer whistles? Our trucks come from the factory with them......just keep the boost up and they whistle real good. I swear it has saved my grill a couple times. Maybe I have dumb luck.

My stack saved me this morning. Bambi was getting ready to step into oncoming traffic (me!) but you can never be sure if they're gonna go, ya know? The guy behind me was tailgating pretty close...imagine my nerve, doing 60 in a 55...anyway, if I'da hit the brakes, he surely would have hit me, so I barked the throttle and thankfully bambi lost her nerve and ran back into the woods.
