death shake

anyone else with 2wd D350 have death shake in their front end at freeway speeds? just got my truck aligned and new tires, so balancing should be good. my steering wheel feels like is going to vibrate off.

Try going to car wash and scrapeing inside of rims and washing them, had a terrible shake in mine and it was dirt that had frozen to in side of all rims. It was about deer season and had been down seasonal roads and had acumulated a lot of mud.

front end shakes

there is no mud or dirt in my wheels, I think because the wheels are coined, they're not exactly centered on the hub. wheels are jumping up and down as if they were not balanced.

It could be one brake caliper slightly binding as well. Had this happen on my 4wd. Just lube up the caliper and work in back and forth. It may not be the cause, but it can't hurt to do it.

I had a binding caliper before as well. Also, make sure you have the correct lugnuts on the front. Mine had the same cup style they put on the rear duals. I had to order the self-centering, cone style to get the wheel centered.

Bad track bar, maybe separating tread.

shakes

there is no play in the tie rods, truck is 2wd so no trac bar. I can be going down a freshly paved road and my wheels feel like they're bouncing up and down. Redleg- about the lug nuts, mine has the same style for the front and rear, are your different? As far as greasing caliper pins, the front calipers dont have pins, the caliper rides directly on the caliper mount- metal to metal. I might throw a little grease on these but I doubt it'll last long.

Some times you have to pollish the surfaces and grease the clipers, they have a high temp lube, but no it doesn't last long. You probably have the wide flange/convex lug nuts. If the center ring of the rim doesn't fit tight to the round lip on the hub, the wheel wont self center. You have to get the lug nuts with beveled shoulder that recesses into the rim to center it on the stud. Cost me about $50 for a set of new ones.

My d350 had the same problem it was a number of things. The slide joint between the steering shaft and the steering box was wornen out. I replace it with and u joint kit this helped alot. The main reason was both of my wheels were bent bad I would says its a wheel. How much weight did it take to balance your tires?

Just because your wheels are in balance doesn't mean the tires are round. Jack the tire off the ground and spin it slowly to see if the tire is round. If it's really out of round it will bounce like the dickins. I've had it happen on the best quality tires and they had to be replaced.

Most tire jockeys don't ever look to see if a tire is round. They just balance it and don't really give a **** if you have a death rattle or not.

I seem to remember a TSB about the rear dually wheels not being on straight so even though the tire was round and balanced it would jump all over the road because it was setting at an angle.
