Dana 80 in W-350
Has anyone installed a 2nd gen Dana 80 in a W-350 pickup?Mine is about toast, has spun an axle bearing and cut the stub axle pretty well.I've got 3.54's. I would like to have everything including the antilocks working,I know the plugs for the antilock are different, but does everythig else hook up? Is the tooth count the same from a 70 to an 80? Thanks

I've got a Dana80 in my 92 D350... so aside from factory lift blocks, we're talking about the same project.
Spring perches are 3" on D80 vs 2.5" on D70. Right location on the axle, tho. The only problem this will cause is trying to run 2.5" (inside span) ubolts past them.
Then UBolt plates for under the axle: the D70 has the right spacing for the ubolts, but wrong axletube diameter. The D80 plates are vice versa.
To get past all this, I ground 1/8" off of each spring perch corners, and elongated the holes in the D80 ubolt plate 1/8" to the inside. Then I bought Ubolts with a 2.75" inside span. This leaves a small gap on each side between the spring and ubolt, which I wasn't too concerned with, and left lots of meat on the ubolt plates... ubolts slipped right through and line up nicely.
My computer toasted it's ABS functionality years ago, so I haven't messed with getting that to work... it's still a tone-ring, so I'd imagine it's just splicing the right wires to use the toner and not the speed sensor. Can't say for sure though.
Driveshaft bolted right up, and the old brake line bolted right down to the new axle. It was an easy Saturday project, all told. And I haven't twisted this D80 like that poor old 70 did!
