Got the power? Man, Ive got 160hp at my disposal! I already hate the
fact I gotta pull hubs to service my brakes...The shoes and hardware I have in my floorboard cost half of what that axle will set me back. I figure Ill just take em back.

I used the spring/u-bolt pads from the dana 80. I also had to shorten the driveshaft about 3/4" to make it right. I was afraid under a hard launch the longer diff case would cause the driveshaft to jam into the transfer case and break. The truck will also sit up a little higher due to the larger diam of axle housing. You can even use your old anti-lock sensor......it fits into the D80 housing.

I put a D80 in my 92, and other than having to get out the die grinder for the u-bolt mounts, and shortening the driveshaft an inch and a half, it was a direct bolt in. Brake lines are the same, I had to move my parking brake bracket, but the cables from the axle fit right into the 1st Gen splitter doo-hickie from the cab end.

I wallowed out my holes for the u-bolts, and resued the u-bolts, though I wouldnt recommend it for heavy towing. I have a set of u-botls made up for it, just need to find some brackets to go on top of the spring. I am also going to use 2nd gen shock mounts (axle came with 2 good shocks) and shocks, as there seem to be more options out there.

My driveshaft fit back in with about 1/2" of slack- I drove it the 80hwy mi home and had the shaft shortened the next day.

Man, $200 is a STEAL for a D80 hub to hub.

My brakes are 13x3.5- no more mushy pedal, and the rear does its share of the stopping. If you have one of the 6 1st Gens with optional factory adequate brakes, you may need to back off the rears, or install a different proportioning valve.

I have a 1991 D250 that I put a 1997 dulley Dana 80 in. I did shorten the driveshaft, don't remember how much. I used the u-bolts and pads from the Dana 80. Had to fab the u-bolt pads so the shocks would bolt back on, easy done. That was all there was to it.

With the dualy axle, it is wider than the single wheel axle I took out. I put the dual wheels on the rear and the same type wheels on the front after changing the front hubs. If you change out your Dana 70 out to a Dana 80 and both are single wheels they are the width or very close. It will fit with no side effects.

My 99 axle has a 92" track with 235 tires on it; Not sure what the D70 track is, considering the truck had a D70 C&C axle when I got it.

Mike, go for it. If you decide you don't want it, I'll be all over it, as i want to do the same to my 93.
