Curious about quality of aftermarket fuel pins
I have the original smokey pin that I put in years ago. In my quest of further tuning the truck to minimize idle haze till I can afford cleaner burning injectors, I opened up my AFC housing to check on star wheel adjustments and saw a slight groove on the pin, which I am highly assuming was caused by the pin riding on the slope of the smokey pin. Is this normal? I know my original stock pin had a travel mark on it, but a groove, I am questioning. Has anyone been into their AFC lately and noticed if theirs has a travel groove etched onto their pin? I usually grease the slope as part of maintenance, but it's been awhile since I've done this.
None of them should groove, they will show a wear mark but should not groove.
The hungry diesel pin is designed to reduce low boost smoke but still deliver full fueling at the top end.

I'd have to recommend the hungry diesel pin as well. I went from a stock pin turned to the deep side to the hungry diesel pin and without turning my starwheel up at all I have no more low end smoke than I did before but once boost comes in, it's sweet! Gained about 4 psi of boost on the top end. these stock IC injectors have got to go soon!
Something I learned, and forgive me if this is a no brainier to most, in my post on attempting to rid of POD haze I had done some detailed test and tune driving for my new DAP injectors, which meant opening up the AFC to make adjustments. Mind you, I had not been into my AFC and pulled the pin out in a couple of years. Today, though, this is what I came up with as I studied the track mark made from the pin that rides the Smokey Power Pin. For years I ran the AFC star wheel way high to minimize the POD haze/smoke, and in the last 2 years installed Hungry Diesels stiff AFC spring on top of my already high star wheel. Now, my original Smokey Pin has that ridge at the bottom, same ridge surrounding the bottom diameter of the stock power pin. I believe with the combination of the star wheel up, heavy spring, and that ridge, is there a possibility of the pin that pops out and rides the power pin, to get hung up on that ridge, not allowing it to retract inward, and causing idle smoke/haze? What do you all think of that concept? No, I'm not a tweaker; just bored living in this trailer out of town for work with nothing better to do but work on my truck!! Expanding on this, I noticed the makers today of aftermarket power pins such as DennyT, M&H, Hungry Diesel, and even BD these pins no longer have that ridge. If you concur with my find, I will pull my original Smokey pin out and grind that ridge off.
