Cummins '78 M887 Project

Hey everybody, I'm working on a cummins swap into my '78 M887 Dodge military truck. I am using the '92 frame and drivetrain, and swaping the sheetmetal over from the '78.

My questions is about the electrical portion. How similar are the electricals between the '92 cab and the '78 cab? Do i need to take the dash harness from the '92 and graft it into the '78 cab, or are the harness close enough to take the wait to start box only?

I did read RCTS's thread about his '76 buildup, but was still alittle lost

Any/all help is appreciated

Thanks

I would say if you can just use the dash from the 92 and that way there is less of a mess for wiring yes you will end up with a late dash and early body but it will look good

There is really no reason to even exchange the cabs. Te 78 sheet metal will bolt right up and the cosmetic differences in the roof line would be almost unnoticeable.

The reason I am changing cabs is a serious rust issue. The '92 cab has no floors, rockers are completely gone and the rain edge above the window is rusted out as well. That leaves me with my rust free M887 body.

I'm gonna assume that the dash from the '78 just doesn't unbolt and gladly accept the '92 dash, so i was hoping to use the present electricle. Maybe it does, and i'll check this afternoon

Het Matt yes the dash will unbolt if you look under the lip of the rubber gasket that hold's windshield in you will see bolt's then you can swap everything over
