Cruise control goes toyota on me

so this weekend my cruise control started acting up. it wanted to keep accelerating indefinitely. sometimes it would stay where i set it but if i tried to accelerate with the button on the wheel it would just keep accelerating forever. luckily my flux capacitor is offline and i didnt make the jump through time.

any chance there is a cheap and easy fix? i really do enjoy using my CC!

If it only did it when you were pressing the acceleration button, I'm willing to bet that your button has had some soda spilled on it over the years and is sticking. Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner around it while working it several times, or take it apart and clean it would be better.

My old Mercedes used to do that, but with no relation of touching anything. I could be steady on cruise for 10 miles, then it would just start accelerating hard. On the Mercedes, it was a classic issue with the Cruise Control op amp. Resoldering all the terminals would sometimes cure the issue on them at least.

Like I said, since it does it after you touch the acceleration button, I'll assume the button is sticky... but we all know how to spell "assume" don't we ....

You could use it drag racing...

Press the button and hold on!

Some older cruise controls would work at any speed, even at stop. I heard about a guy that had an old car that would get to the lights and just hit "resume" and it would take off. It would consistantly lay down 22.something second 1/4 miles.... in Bracket racing, he had it made! I believe this was a diesel car too (the old GMs).

Mine is the same way, i just fixed my clock spring and got my cruse working and it does that same thing, i just thought it was something i did, and at first it stomped the pedel to the floor for a second and then let off but i adjusted the cable looser and that help that alot but it still jerks when i'm on level road.

Might be more of a trait of older cruise controls? My old 93 Ford IDI surged slightly at a stead 50-60mph. Anything faster it didn't, anything slower it didn't (or if pulling a hill it didn't either). So it pretty much would surge just slightly exactly where I used the CC most!
