Crank Case Vent

I have replaced my rear main and would like to make sure the crank case vent is open. its a '93 12 valve , is there a screen or something in there? how do you get the plastic elbow off that the hose clamps to?

The elbow is part of the tappet cover & yes there is a filter/baffle on the inside of the tappet cover. At least there was one on my 92.

are you saying that "tappet cover" that goes the whole length of the engine has to come off to clean the filter?

That is the cover. The filter is like a screen/mesh setup. I don't know if I would pull it unless I knew it was plugged.
