Yes, The Holset HE341 is the Factory Turbo on the 03 to early 04 (305/555) equipped Trucks. The Holset HE351 was used on the later 04.5 (build date 1/04) to 07 (325/600 or 610) equipped Trucks.

he-351 is a great turbo for the money. cant believe how well it cools at 30-40+ psi boost. excellent tow or hotrod turbo. i tow uphills with injectors that were custom built for sled pulling a few years ago. 5x13,s or 5x14,s. flow alot more than 5x12,s or pods and this turbo does a great job at keeping egt,s cool. i look at the 9cm housing and still wonder how it can work so well. even with wastegate blocked it cools well pushing 50 psi, for drivepressure concerns i wastegate at 39 psi. i think the key is compressor wheel speed. the 60 mm wheel pushes alot more air at slower spin then the smaller wheels like hx or hy or h1. it appears overspool out of "map" leads to hot egts, not "restriction" of small housing. small housing on h1c pushes it out of its map with added fuel pretty quik. keep a turbo in its map and a smaller housing works great. pus he-351 has smaller turbine than hx or h1 i noted. not sure how this helps. i tow with more fuel in the mountians than alot of guys with good egt control with the he-351. it still surprises me how well it works. not a good dyno queen turbo though. i think at hi rpm drive pressure robs some power, 3000 + rpm

well i think I will be gettin one of these turbos, I think I will pick one up tommorrow. I haven't put my h1c back on yet cuz i really didn't want to so my truck has just been sitting all week all torn apart. Hopefully I can get this turbo and get it on and enjoy! I really can't wait to see what it does. I think it will do great on my truck though. The hy surprised me and i have a feeling the he351 will surprise me even more.

So how much manifold pressure can you run while keeping egts at 1200deg while towing up the passes?

With my hx hybrid on the W truck and the PS intercooler it'll keep ~20psi cool, but same turbo on the D truck with factory intercooler and auto it'll barely keep 12psi cool.

interesting difference between the p/s intercooler and stock. i think the 06 dodge i/c im running helps alot vs stock. with the he-351, 30-35 psi is easy to keep temps under 1200. depends on hill and wieght alittle.im still learning what it will do in different conditions. my friend had an 04.5 commonrail, hauled cars all over the west. 30k lbs + wt. he would run 35-40 psi uphills in his words "all day long". he ran a banks programmer that he said helped too, timing changes i guess.

Well before on the W truck with the factory IC it would keep 15psi cool, then upgrade it would keep 20psi cool. So really a pretty big difference, I would imagine that your 3rd gen cooler would be even better! Also the W truck has 4" exhaust.

The D truck still has stock 3" exhaust and an auto, so between those two I think that's where this hybrid can only keep 12psi cool where on the W truck it would keep 15psi cool.

But i'm thinking that the HE351 with 4" exhaust on the D truck, even with the stock IC should work quite nicely. Just guessing that it should keep 20psi cool fairly easily, and I would be pretty happy with that.

well i found another one that is basically brand new and it has an actuator for $450, I might get that one. I have my intercooler pulled out right now cuz i'm cleanin everything out while i have my truck down, and I'm thinkin about upgradin the intercooler and the piping if i can find an intercooler for a good deal. So will a powerstroke or 2nd gen or 3rd gen intercooler fit right where my stock one is right now? like is it the same size? but just with bigger piping? or what will fit the best?

No none of the intercooler's you listed fit right in.

requires cutting,cursing,fabricating etc.

I believe theres a 2nd gen i/c and P/S i/c install thread in the STICKY.

Change over to the 2nd gen cooler. You'll have to mod your core support. But it will be worth the time..Don't do the 3rd gen cooler. Too much work..DNR has a great write up on doing a 2nd gen in a 1st gen...

He said he bought the truck brand new and drove it down the street to the diesel shop and had twins put on. pretty crazy huh? how do you break-in a new turbo? whats the proper break in techniques? Just drive it like you normally would, there is nothing to "break in".

you probably know already, but make sure you pre-lube it just before you start the truck. that's your "break in". pour oil into the top where the supply line connects. hook up the oil drain line first, it'll spare you a clean up job.

I just got to drive mine with an HE351 today and I love it... I gained 9 psi and lost nearly 200* from the HE341.

I think the main reason was I had the 351 clocked right so it's outlet is a straight shot to the intercooler. When I had the 341, I didn't know you could clock the compressor, so I had 2 90 degree bend to get from the compressor outlet to the intercooler.
