Cold Air Intake DNR
Cold Air Intake DNR
I got a cold air intake from DNR Customs, love the way it sounds
Its got a S&B universal filter, does it need oiled every so often or just blew out and how often?

When it comes to the oiled filters, there is a basic guideline to use. When the filter minder indicates it needs cleaning, or when you decide to clean it:
* remove filter,
* spray the solution to dissolve / loosed the debris,
* wait 10 minutes and rinse with a garden hose, (use normal hose pressure and not high pressure(,
* 'shake' out excess water, (no compressed air)
* let filter 'throughly dry',
* spray a 'light' coat of oil on filter and let stand, (don't over do it).
* after oil has soaked into filter, look for uncoated areas and touch up theses areas only with oil,
* after the additional oil has soaked in and filter is dry, install filter.
(I've found out the cleaner and oil from most all companies are somewhat similar and have bought the K&N from the local automotive stores, costing about $10 a box. Never had an issue with any manufactures filters. Save time acquiring and cost.)
The biggest problems people have with oiled filters are:
* water pressure high enough to break filter material,
* not allowing filter to dry before putting on oil,
* putting way to much oil on material and installing filter to soon,
* starting engine and sucking oil through filter into inlet tube and turbo fan blades.
When the filter material is moist, the oil will dissolve and flow quickly, then with the filter in this condition, the vacuum of the system will pull oil through the filter.
I've had these on 6 vehicles and up to or over 400k on some, never having problems as long as I've followed the above process. Takes a bit longer then most people want to do, but how often do you really need to clean them ? I do it once per year, if they need it or not.
