Clack
Clack
My 93 Dodge Cummins with over 700,000kms is amazing to me, but also unlike any Diesel I've ever run in many ways. Good fuel economy esp when pulling my 35' 5th wh camper trailer. I always need something to worry about tho so now it's a clacking sound from the engine that's louder under power and disappears with pedal off metal, consistent with a cracked exhaust manifold. It clacks once per rev I think. Any chance it's an injector firing too soon and causing diesel knock? Or can a tappet be louder under power? I'm overdue for a tappet adjust anyhow. Also, and this might just be my terrified imagination, but I think my oil pressure is a tad higher than it was three years ago when I bought it. I've run 5W50 full synthetic for the last year due to need for cold starts, but my experience is that oil pressure reduces with engine wear. ??! ... meanwhile I'm all ears, ....Dennis
