Cant get full throttle

Housekeeping, I'm working on a 1992 W250 automatic with 350,000 clicks.

I just had the injection pump rebuilt yesterday and installed it (they did a fantastic job and great to deal with). Everything went together fine and the truck started/runs as expected. It idles at about 800/825 RPM and the throttle lever on the injector pump, at idle, is against the stop (the stop on the back side of the injector pump closest to the head, the difficult one to access). With the engine off, I have someone press the accelerator pedal to the floor inside the cab. The throttle lever opens but not all the way (it doesn't get into/past the brake-over spring).

My question is, how do you get more "throw" out of the accelerator peddle? Is there an adjustment on the injection pump to get more throw without pulling the lever off the idle stop screw?

Thanks in advance for the help

Will that change the shift points on my automatic transmission?

Your throttle cable might be stretched,

After I added several inches of carpet padding to the cab and many times reworking my pump, I cut and installed a 3/4" spacer under the accelerator bracket on the floor, then I cut a spacer to fit around the cable end in the cab so now with full travel on the pump, the pedal is still about a half inch off the floor.

Note: moving the throttle to the inside hole will give you better travel by changing the geometry of the lever but it will effect the cruise control and make it more twitchey.

Jim, I wondered if the cable could stretch after sooo many miles. I only need about 1/8" more travel to hit the max, and maybe 1/8" isn't that big a deal but I want to find out. I haven't look at it yet but could I rearch the pedal arm? What did you use for a spacer?

My lever hits the fuel line before it goes all the way.

I would not try to rearch the lever, it might weaken the structure and bend more easily.

I removed the pedal assy and traced the base onto some pieces of 1/4" plywood, clamped them and then cut them out, this way I could adjust it in 1/4" increments.
I am not crazy about a floating pedal,
I like a treadle like on a semi hinged at the bottom.

First try this, get a hardwood dowel about 3/8"-1/2" diameter and cut it about 1/2" long and then drill a small hole to fit the cable directly in the center then with a fine tooth coping saw make a cut to the center hole.
Now lift up on the pedal and slip the cable.through the cut in the spacer to take up the loose cable.
Try the height of the pedal, if it is OK, capture the cable with a zip tie.

Jim

Copy, I like the dowel idea. Now if I can get my 17yo daughter to quit driving long enough to fix it...

Thanks

I took some of the slack out of my cable by
pulling on the cable at the floor pedal,
and then putting a tie wrap around the cable
between the swagged end and the lever.
If there is still slack then use two tie wraps side by side.
