Can torque converter cause vibation problem?
Can torque converter cause vibation problem?
I have had this problem for quite awhile and had asumed it was the tc. It "shudders" as you take off but smoothes out as you increse your speed and runs fine at speed. tranny shifts fine. But it is getting worse and now it is also vibrating signifcantly as you come to a stop. it "feels" like coming to a stop with mudder tires. I jacked up the rear end and checked the driveline and carrier bearing and everything seems to be ok. I ran it while jacked up and it vibtates as you bring it to a stop, the vibration quites as the driveline comes to a stop. Anyone else ever had experience with something like this? gene

Pull the inspection cover off of the bottom of the bell housing and look real close at the flex plate for cracks. When mine cracked it had a vibration like you are having, then there was the little knocking sound, then it broke the center out.
Does the vibration change frequency as the drive line slows or does it shift with the gears? What is the condition of the drive shaft and u joints? Is the vibration under heavy load as well as no load. If the vibration changes with engine speed no matter which gear you are in, I would venture a guess the flex plate.
thanks for the responses, ive checked the driveline pretty carefully and sure it is ok, i have been planning the hughes tc upgrade and a transpro shift kit and the 2nd gen flexplate so i guess i have something to do this weekend... ill pull the inspection plate this evening after work .. gene
