I am moving back to Ca (Orange Co.), of course with my 1977 motorhome with a 1993 12V engine.

Does Cali DMV require smog testing? If so, what's the process? Any suggestions as to special preps I should do, considering it was an engine swap (went thru Az DOT vehicle inspection ok)?

I'm in the process of the same I am going to reg my crewcab and the info I got before I started it was have them verify that it is diesel power and being the motor is newer then the yr and it still doesn't require smog you should be ok what part of ca. are you moving to ? you can also get a address in a smog free area ( needles is smog free due to being to close to border

You may have to take it to a Ref. but they should pass it without troubles

 

No smog or emissions testing. Only for the '98 and newer trucks. However, it's only a visual inspection as of right now.

 

1976 and later gassers will need to referee the upgrade to exemption, a later motor needs to be installed with the same year components, as jimbo said, 12 valve motors are exempt.

 

When they ask what fuel your engine runs on, just say "diesel" and you should be good.
