a/c project to begin...need a 'lil guidance
Well, truck came w/o a/c. Found a truck in the boneyard, also a 91.5, stole dash, the air ducting, the "air box" with the heater core and a/c hx, condenser, and the lines. Thinking bout getting new lines just cause the old ones are pretty nasty looking. I do not have the compressor and the one wiring harness that plugs into the back of the switch panel (a/c, vent, heat, def, etc...). Where is a good source for finding these? Am I mistaken that once I get everything it should be plug 'n play? Wiring harness in truck already seems to have the necessary plugs. Hopefully somebody here has a little more experience than I do, because I don't have much. If anybody here has the above things I'm missing, let me know, or if you can think of anything else, all help is greatly appreciated. Looks like I'll be getting transferred back to South Carolina or Georgia in the relatively near future, and I don't wanna be down there without a/c. Thanks so much for the help,
Brian

I'm at the same point you are, just picked up a complete dash assembly with wiring harness, air box, controls, etc. Have all the interior stuff but none of the underhood stuff.
Get a new TXV valve and filter/dryer. The old filter/dryer is no good after being exposed to air more than a few hours. A new TXV is just cheap insurance.
I have been meaning to research compressors, one from a R12 system will work if you use ester oil but one from a R134 system will work better but I don't know if the fittings will match up.
You are taking it in somewhere to have it filled with R134 I assume? The whole system has to be pulled down to a deep vacuum to remove all air and moisture before charging.

I just wrote an article that may help you on HVAC Principles and Diagnosis. It can be found in the tech facts section in the General area.
Speaking of the dash, has anyone been able to change one of these out without removing the front windshield? I have one on hand to change out but was told the windshield has to come out to get to the top screws?

The guy who I bought my stuff from said that he was able to leave the window in but had to cut the rubber to get at the screws. Not sure if cutting the rubber there would cause a leak or not.
