buying a used goerend converter

I have the opportunity to pick one up for relatively cheap, the guy is converting to a 5 speed. He says it has around 1k Miles on it and the clutches in the trans started slipping so he bought a conversion. He gave me the number on the coverter and I will call Goerend later but what do you guys think? Should I be concerned with metal in the trans or converter? Thanks

I installed a Goerend TC and I absolutely love it. You could always run it over to a trans shop and have them clean it out. You might even consider sending it to Goerend and having them flush it out and give it a little check up. I would want to just run it and take a chance of running any foreign material thru your tranny.

Best bet would be to call Goerend and see what they reccomend BUT, seeing as how us 1st genners don`t have to worry about lockup clutches, there really is`nt too much to go wrong in there (unless the PO really grenaded the trans). As long as the ATF has no metal in it I`d buy it if the deal was good, just save a few $$ to get it cut n cleaned.

Thats how they are re-manned, cut it open inspect/repair/replace anything needed, clean it all up, weld it back shut and balance it. In the case of a non-lockup unit theres a very small chance something will actually be worn/broken other than thrust washers/bearings so the majority of the time it`s opened up just to get any trash/debris out of it.

Yea but you have to pay to ship your core back to goerend too, I don't see it costing $150 to ship that, That seems high
